The city’s global identity began with an accident in 1894 when the Kellogg brothers left a batch of boiled wheat out overnight. It became stale, flaked when rolled, and turned crispy when toasted—creating the world's first cereal.
During WWI, it served as a training hub for "doughboys" at Camp Custer, which remains active today as the Fort Custer Training Center . Battle Creek
